描述.The rate of social change has speeded up in the last three decades, but how do we explain this? This volume ventures what the generative mechanism is that produces such rapid change and discusses how this differs from late Modernity. Contributors examine if an intensification of morphogenesis (positive feedback that results in a change in social form) and a corresponding reduction in morphostasis (negative feedback that restores or reproduces the form of the social order) best captures the process involved.  This volume resists proclaiming a new social formation as so many books written by empiricists have done by extrapolating from empirical data.  Until we can convincingly demonstrate that a new generative mechanism is at work, it is premature to argue what accounts for the global changes that are taking place and where they will lead. More concisely we seek to answer the question whether or not current social change can be regarded as social morphogenesis. Only then, in the nextvolumes will the same team of authors be able to remove the question mark..

Morphogenesis and Social Changeconsequently fail to account effectively for social change. The chapter ends with some questions as Archer now speculates about morphogenesis as not just a meta-theoretical concept but as also a specific societal category at the level of theory.

Emergence and Morphogenesis: Causal Reduction and Downward Causation?ng from arguments for both, I argue, is an adequate analysis of the manner in which the components of a system are organised in relation to each other, and indeed of the causal contribution of any such organising relations.

Self-Organisation as the Mechanism of Development and Evolution in Social Systemsvolutionary systems theory and critical social systems theory, each based upon the former. The argument starts with a discussion of revolution, proceeds to reflexivity and ends with the need to grasp unity-through-diversity in order to respond to the complexity of the global age.

Social Morphogenesis and the Prospects of Morphogenic Society, gnatories to a manifesto for a Morphogenic Society but are willing to consider this notion given rapid global change, the current crisis and perceived inadequacies in macroscopic social theory today. The introduction undertakes four tasks. (i) Clarifying the distinction between the Morphogenetic App

Morphogenesis and Social Changeexplained as a meta-theoretical rather than a theoretical concept. As such, morphogenesis does not directly explain anything. Instead, it constitutes the ineluctable framework for any theoretically effective explanation of social change. Accordingly, this chapter shows (i) how the morphogenetic appr

The Morphogenetic Approach and the Idea of a Morphogenetic Society: The Role of Regularitiesr the explanatory morphogenetic approach. The general thesis is that further articulation of the morphogenetic conceptual framework appears to be connected with the representation of society it offers, the relation being one of reciprocity. More precisely, it is argued that the idea of MS could stim
