Recrystallization and Sintering in Ceramicstion phenomena. It is important to remember that metallurgists use the term recrystallization in a much more restricted sense: the nucleation and subsequent growth of a new generation of strain-free grains into the deformed matrix of cold-worked material.

Material Transport Rate and Stress Distribution During Grain Boundary Diffusion Driven by Surface Terial removal or material deposition in the grain boundary are shown graphically for various ratios of curvatures at the left and the right hand side of the neck and for a constant curvature ratio for varying grain boundary length. Some conclusions are drawn for material transport and angle change between the particles during sintering.

Intermediate and Final State Diffusion Modelshese models predict that the rate of density change is constant when the diffusion coefficient and grain size are constant. The need for simultaneous isothermal densification and grain growth data is indicated. The explicit change in densification rate with discontinuous grain growth is predicted in terms of pore spacing and grain size.

Role of Grain Boundaries in Sinteringases. Impurity additions will increase the sintering rate if they increase diffusion rates, but they may also increase sintering rates by impeding grain-boundary movement. Some experimental evidence is presented to support these conclusions.
