描述Recently, there have been significant advances in the fields of high-enthalpy hypersonic flows, high-temperature gas physics, and chemistry shock propagation in various media, industrial and medical applications of shock waves, and shock-tube technology. This series contains all the papers and lectures of the 19th International Symposium on Shock Waves held in Marseille in 1993. They are published in four topical volumes, each containing papers on related topics, and preceded by an overview wrtitten by a leading international expert. The volumes may be purchased independently.

Optical Observation of Mach Reflection of a Partly Dispersed Shock Wave by Sub-Micron Water Dropletsragm breakup. The growth of the condensed water droplets was observed by measuring the light extinction rate. Shock speed was calculated by the recorded signals of pressure transducers. Shock reflection was observed by a high-speed image converter camera and still camera.

Entrainment of a Spherical Particle by the Flow Behind a Shock Wave and the smooth surface generates unsteady drag and lift forces on the particle. The scaling of these forces with the radius of the particle is investigated using particles whose radius is 1,10, and 100 .m. The calculated force components are also used to evaluate the unsteady lift and drag coefficients.
