Role of plant root exudates in soil carbon and nitrogen transformationPlant root exudates were shown to accelerate the processes of C and N transformation in the soil. The activity of extracellular enzymes in the rhizosphere depended on both the composition of root exudates and the addition of organic C to the soil. Nitrogen from root exudates was found in all fractions of soil organic matter and microbial biomass.

Morphological intraspecific diversity of below-ground organs in herbs and dwarf shrubs inhabiting thtions inhabiting the wide area from the Polar to the Southern Urals. These variations were classified as time-dependent (ontogenetic and seasonal), individual, ecological, and geographical. Nevertheless, the species-specific conservatism in root architecture was maintained in all species inspected.
