描述What is dramatic romance? Scholars have long turned to Shakespeare‘s biography to answer this question, marking his ‘late plays‘ as the beginning and end of the dramatic romance. This book identifies an earlier history for this genre, revealing how stage romances imaginatively expanded audience interest in England‘s emerging global economy.

Coda: Global Romance after Shakespeare, motif for the performance was Caliban’s line from .Be not afeard. The isle is full of noises” (3.2.130). Printed at the top of the ceremony’s program, etched on the bell that signaled the games’ opening, and called out in the voice of Kenneth Branagh, Shakespeare’s words seemed to call the “Isles of Wonder” into being.
