Some Applications,In this chapter three real-life examples of reliability and risk analyses are presented. The examples are taken from the petroleum activity in the North Sea. Due to confidentiality, all numerical values are changed for the first example. Some adjustments have been made for teaching purposes.

Binary Models for Analysing System Reliability,ponents. Then methods for calculation of system reliability are studied, when the component reliabilities are known. Models for non-repairable and repairable systems are looked into. The components are assumed to be functioning/not functioning independently of each other, except in Section 3.6 where dependency is discussed.

Multistate Models for Analysing System Reliability, have an arbitrary number of states/levels. It will focus on flow network models which are a significant special case of multistate systems. Flow network models are used to model e.g. production and transportation systems for oil and gas, and power transmission systems.
