Relational Ritual Typology,is of their ‘genre’ or context of occurrence; as this chapter will argue, from a relational perspective a ritual typology should categorise rituals according to the type of relationship which evokes a given ritual practice.

Recognition, Affectivity and Emotivity,ot, and (b) exactly how it triggers affectivity and emotions and what type of feelings it triggers specifically. Let us recall here the terminological distinction made in Chapter 1, relying on Gonzâlez et al. (1998): ‘emotion’ stands for an internal individual response and ‘affection’ refers to a process of social interaction.

Introduction,se contexts, hence avoiding a priori predictions (cf. later in the present section; for a detailed introduction to discursive approaches see Haugh et al. 2013). Stereotypically, English and other Western languages are thought of as languages which have dispensed with rituals, and the present volume will be challenging this concept.
