The book begins with a typology ofabstract objects and related entities like eventualities. After anintroduction to `bottom up, compositional‘ discourse representationtheory (DRT) and to previous work on abstract objects in DRT (notablywork on the semantics of the attitudes), the book turns to a semanticanalysis of eventuality and abstract object denoting nominals inEnglish. The book then substantially revises and extends the dynamicsemantic framework of DRT to develop an analysis of anaphoricreference to abstract objects and eventualities that exploitsdiscourse structure and the discourse relations that obtain betweenelements of the structure. A dynamic, semantically based theory ofdiscourse structure (SDRT) is proposed, along with many illustrativeexamples. Two further chapters then provide the analysis of anaphoricreference to propositions VP ellipsis. The abstract entity anaphoricantecedents are elements of the discourse structures that SDRTdevelops. The final chapter discusses some logical and philosophicaldifficulties for a | 出版日期 | Book 1993 | 关键词 | discourse; language; linguistics; semantic; semantics | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1007/978-94-011-1715-9 | isbn_softcover | 978-94-010-4751-7 | isbn_ebook | 978-94-011-1715-9Series ISSN 0924-4662 Series E-ISSN 2215-034X | issn_series | 0924-4662 | copyright | Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 1993 |
