Raman Spectroscopic Analysis of a Putative Seventeenth Century Oil Painting Depicting William Shakeent with its assignment to the early seventeenth Century. Genuine portraits of Shakespeare are rare but the style of dress and pose are characteristic of the period. The painting is in rather poor condition and requires extensive restoration; in particular, the varnish is badly degraded and very dark in colour.
