图书封面Titlebook: Race, Place and the Seaside; Postcards from the E Daniel Burdsey Book 2016 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s) 2016 demography.
描述.Thisis the first academic monograph to focus exclusively on issues of race, ethnicity, whiteness and multiculture at the English seaside. The book callsfor acknowledgement of the racialised nature of this environment, and proposesthat its distinctive spaces, places, traditions and narratives should beincluded within broader analyses of race in contemporary Britain. Introducingthe concept of ‘coastal liquidity’ to explain shifting ethno-racialdemographics, migratory politics and spatial dynamics at the edge of the sea, along with the relative im/mobilities of the minority ethnic communities whomove and reside there, the author provides a relational exploration of seasideexperiences: both as a locus of racialised categorisation, exclusion andsubjugation, and one of resistance, conviviality and intercultural exchange.Combining theoretical insight and empirical fieldwork, the book disruptsdominant thinking that fixes ontologically minority ethnic bodies to urbanspaces, and overcomes their erasure and silencing from the seaside landscapesof the popular imagination..

Introduction: Race, Place and the Seasidences, engagements, and incongruities that are developed subsequently within the book. In this scene-setting narrative, Burdsey argues for placing race, racialisation, and racism at the centre, rather than at the periphery, of contemporary seaside studies. Burdsey then introduces the idea of coastal

The chapter also provides full details of the methodology underpinning the book’s empirical fieldwork, particularly issues of data generation, epistemology, subjectivity, and ethics.
