描述 | This by now classic text provides an excellent introduction to andsurvey of the still-expanding field of quantum chaos. For thislong-awaited fourth edition, the original text has been thoroughlymodernized..The topics include a brief introduction to classicalHamiltonian chaos, a detailed exploration of the quantum aspects ofnonlinear dynamics, quantum criteria used to distinguish regular andirregular motion, and antiunitary (generalized time reversal) andunitary symmetries. The standard Wigner-Dyson symmetry classes, as wellas the non-standard ones introduced by Altland and Zirnbauer, areinvestigated and illustrated with numerous examples. Random matrixtheory is presented in terms of both classic methods and thesupersymmetric sigma model. The power of the latter method is revealedby applications outside random-matrix theory, such as to quantumlocalization, quantum graphs, and universal spectral fluctuations ofindividual chaotic dynamics. The equivalence of the sigma model andGutzwiller’s semiclassical periodic-orbit theory is demonstrated. Lastbut not least, the quantum mechanics of dissipative chaotic systems arealso briefly described. .Each chapter is accompanied by a selectionof |
