Abundances and Ionization in Multiple-Component Absorbersthe Zn II / H I ratio provides only a weak upper limit to [Fe/H] for the system. The (S II / Zn II) value implies a strong Fe-peak enhancement relative to .-product elements, compared to Galactic halo stars at [Fe/H] = −2.2. QSO Absorption by Nearby Galaxiesl views highlighted by the recent NATO conference on the opacity of spiral disks. We find that a significant amount of the universe will be obscured at redshifts important to QSO astronomers. This implies that any studies at high redshift should take account of this absorption.

High Redshift Lyman Limit and Damped Lyman-Alpha Absorbersed to create new samples of high redshift Lyman-limit and damped Lyman-a absorbers. These data have been combined with published data sets in a study of the redshift evolution and the column density distribution function for absorbers with logN(HI)≥ 17.5, over the redshift range 0.01 < z < 5.
