Direct Photon Production in pp and ,p Collisionsce .q annihilation is clearly more important in .p than pp, due to the valence . quarks, R is expected to be larger than one, and since the gluon structure function is known to be relatively soft so that .q should become increasingly favoured over qg as p. increases, R is expected to increase with the p. of the emitted gamma ray.

Indeed since then an impressive number of experiments. confirmed the production of prompt photons in hadronic collisions. Especially for proton induced production one has to note the large coverage in .(20 – 630GeV) and . (5 – 80GeV/.). although the experiments are rather difficult
