Studies on Enkephalinergic Mechanisms in Cardiovascular Centers of the Medulla Oblongata of the Rat R nerve terminals and cell bodies within the nucleus tractus solitarii (nTS) and in the nucleus ambiguus [3, 4]. The dynorphin synapses may . operate via kappa-opiate-receptors, and an injection of preferential kappa-opiate agonists into the nucleus ambiguus and nTS produces cardiovascular actions [

Opioid Receptors in the Sympathetic Supply to Blood Vessels and the Heartl (1976) in the ear artery of the rabbit. The sympathetic axons innervating the cat spleen (Gaddis and Dixon 1982), the rabbit heart (Starke et al. 1985), and the guinea pig heart (Ledda et al. 1984; Fuder et al. 1986) also apparently lack opioid mu-receptors but do possess release-inhibiting delta-

Multiplicity of Opioidergic Pathways Related to Cardiovascular Innervation: Differential Contributiove also been well characterized (cf. Millan and Herz 1985). The conception that endocrine and CNS opioid peptides and receptors may play an important role in various physiological and pathophysiological cardiovascular regulatory mechanisms is widely accepted (cf. Holaday 1983; McQueen 1983; Holaday, this volume).

Opioids, Opiate Receptors, and Central Cardiovascular Regulationshock and hypertension [10, 11]. The present review examines the experimental evidence relating to the possible role of endogenous opioids in central cardiovascular control and dyscontrol, and assesses the methodological issues relevant to the interpretation of the experimental results.

Endogenous Opioids in the Dorsal Vagal Complex and Resting Cardiovascular Function in the Anesthetizwing injection into the DMV [3,5]. Opioid peptides have also been shown to elicit specific pressor or depressor actions following injection into the NTS and these responses appear to be a function of relative receptor selectivity [10,11].
