Benthic Processes and the Burial of Carbon,nd the composition of the material reaching the sea floor. As will be shown in this chapter, the connection between the surface ocean and the seafloor is not a simple one. However, the integration of signals at the sea floor allows conclusions to be drawn about upper ocean processes which go beyond the period of direct observation.
