Some Statistical Considerations on the Use of Anthropometry to Assess Nutritional Status, is how well, if at all, we can use anthropometry to predict nutritional status. What is required is some function, or functions, of anthropometric and other relevant measurements that predict either specific or general nutritional states.

The Relation between Size at Birth and Preschool Clinical Severe Malnutrition,is important. If size at birth helps to define the likelihood with which a child would develop severe malnutrition during infancy and the preschool years, such knowledge would be valuable in identifying children at risk and, potentially, for prevention.
