Parallel Computer Architectures for Numerical Simulation,d section of this paper gives an introduction to the state-of-the-art in parallel computer architectures and their programming. Today, some open problems remain for the user of such architectures. Those problems and possible solutions are dealt with in the third section. Problems of communication, portability, and flexibility are addressed.

Dynamic Systems Visualization Applied to Flight Mechanics Problems,-dimensional objects including possible deformations. Flight mechanics problems are used as examples of which one concerns the separation of a two-stage flight system equipped with airbreathing engines at hypersonic speed. The other example deals with dynamic soaring which is a complex flight technique for extracting energy from horizontal wind.

Design Optimization of High Performance Satellites,cal solution of the boundary-value problems is by a modified multiple shooting method. Problems of scaling and extremely small convergence areas require new solution techniques. For the first time the proof of mission feasibility is given. Design optimization leads to a cheap, robust satellite.

High-Performance Computing in Fluid Mechanics,ows with vortical structures. Comparison to experimental data is sought whenever possible. It will be shown, that direct numerical simulation of complex flow phenomena is successful, if sufficient space and time resolution can be provided.
