The Spectrum of Internal Motions in the North Sea, Inferred from Modulation of an Acoustic Underwatetechniques, where the ocean is observed from above. Electromagnetic waves are strongly attenuated in sea-water and are not suitable for scanning the inner ocean. Acoustic waves with frequencies in the range from about 100 Hz to some 10,000 Hz are more appropriate for this purpose.

We start with some brief remarks about the JONSWAP-spectrum, then continue with the outlines of some principal features of the Hamburg Hybrid Deep Water Wave Model and conclude with recent results obtained in our first attempts to model topographic influences on waves in finite depth water.

The formal base of the method consists of the joint probability density function of the relevant parameters.
