描述.   With this seventh edition, .Noback’s Human Nervous System: Structure and Function. continues to combine clear prose with exceptional original illustrations that provide a concise lucid depiction of the human nervous system. The book incorporates recent advances in neurobiology and molecular biology. Several chapters have been substantially revised.  These include Development and Growth, Blood Circulation and Imaging, Cranial Nerves and Chemical Senses, Auditory and Vestibular Systems, Visual System, and Cerebral Cortex.  Topics such as neural regeneration, plasticity and brain imaging are discussed.  Each edition of The Human Nervous System has featured a set of outstanding illustrations drawn by premier medical artist Robert J. Demarest.  Many of the figures from past editions have been modified and/or enhanced by the addition of color, which provides a more detailed visualization of the nervous system. .   Highly praised in its earlier versions, this new edition offers medical, dental, allied health science and psychology students a readily understandable and organized view of the bewilderingly complex awe-inspiring human nervous system.  Its explanatory power and visual insi

Cranial Nerves and Chemical Senses,m and end in sensory nuclei (Figs. 14.2 and 14.5). Efferent fibers arise from cell bodies located in brain stem motor nuclei (Fig. 14.3). Cranial nerves pass to and from the cranial cavity through foramina, canals, and fissures in the skull.

Motoneurons and Motor Pathways, rvous system (CNS) as the spinal neuronal circuits that control the automatic stereotypic reflexes (.). Higher centers in the brainstem mediate postural controlled and rhythmic locomotor movements. The highest centers, including the motor areas of the cerebral cortex, initiate and regulate complex skilled voluntary movements.

Basic Neurophysiology,h other neurons or effectors (muscles and glands). To serve these tasks, the neuron is thus organized into (1) a receptive segment (dendrites and cell body), (2) a conductile segment (axon), and (3) an effector segment (synapse) (Fig. 3.1).

Auditory and Vestibular Systems,em in contrast is proprioceptive. Its receptors monitor head position and movement and convey this information into the brain stem, where it is integrated into the motor systems. The vestibular system is important for maintaining equilibrium and upright posture and for control of synergistic eye movements.
