描述No Asylum is a quantitative assessment of the incidence of state repression via the peculiar institution of forced psychiatric hospitalization of evidently healthy Soviet dissidents. The book explains who was targeted and why, as the State used psychiatry to attempt to deflect, defuse, discredit or destroy the multifaceted dissident movement. Although new detentions virtually ceased as the Union fragmented, it is too early to write an epitaph for psychiatric abuse: political use of psychiatry could be revived in Russia.

Trends, Changes with Administration and Spatial Dispersion, als at capacity. As an evident effort to avoid World Psychiatric Association censure, which nevertheless took place in August of 1977, administrative hospitalizations were reduced in that year, but rebounded exponentially over the next three years. Four Explanations of the Political Use of Psychiatry, olitical upheaval in the townships. Perhaps equally inventively and more cost-effectively, the South African authorities did arrest thousands of children under 15, as a disincentive to political activity on the part of their parents and other relatives.

Who Are the Dissident Detainees? Some Observations and Descriptive Statistics,Soviet systematic persecution of the Evangelicals, often poor, also illustrates the class-inclusive nature of contemporary global political and religious repression of dissent,. as events in May 1989 in China corroborate.
