The trace decomposition of tensors of type (1,2) and (1,3),In this paper, elementary methods are applied to determine the trace decomposition of tensors of type (1,2), and (1,3) on a real, finite-dimensional vector space. Explicit decomposition formulas are given showing the dependence of the decomposition on the dimension of the underlying vector space. The unigueness of the decomposition is discussed.
