描述As a former president of the International Society for Neuro vegetative Research and as a co-editor it is a pleasure to write a short introduction to the present volume which contains the proceedings of an international symposium, held at Tihany, Hungary, June 19-24, 1972, under the auspices of the Society mentioned above. The meeting, which was organized by Professor B. Csillik, Szeged, Hungary, who also acted as president, took place at the Tihany Biological Institute, most beautifully situated at lake Balaton. Such international symposia of the International Society for Neurovegetative Research have been organized at irregular intervals in several different countries. Members of the International Society are, automatically, the members of National Societies for Neuro vegetative Research, active in some European countries and in Japan, as well as individuals taking interest in the aim of the International Society. From its foundation, in 1953, on the goal of the Society has always been the advancement of neurovegetative research as per formed by both, workers in the basic sciences and medical prac titioners doing scientific work. Therefore, symposia of the Inter national Soc

Ultrastructure of Synapses in the Waking State,as well as the “wrinkling” and the relative number of open protuberances (representing vesicular attachment sites) is strongly enhanced in the waking as compared with the anaesthetized state. Thus, the “textbook appearance” of the synapse with rectilinear and parallel synaptic membranes probably rep

Dynamics of Transmissional Ultrastructures in Sympathetic Neurones of the Rat,posed for the small granulated vesicles of the perikaryon. An hypothesis was set up, according which the accumulation of NA proximal to a ligature may be understood as the result of local assembling of storage organelles from material, especially proteins manufactered in the perikaryon and stopped i

Some Aspects of the Release of the Adrenergic Transmitter, rious previous explanations for this phenomenon appear at present to be unlikely. The current view is that the results are better explained as due to an increase in the amount of transmitter released per nerve impulse from the nerve endings. This indicates that the amount of transmitter released per

Spinal Transmission of Autonomic Processes, (monosynaptic) connection between primary sensory fibers and efferent neurons. 2. As the sympathetic reflex activity is travelling along spinal and supraspinal routes, both spinal and supraspinal interneurons have to be considered. According to indirect electrophysiological data the spinal interneu
