描述.The study of how the brain processes time is becoming one of the most important topics in systems, cellular, computational, and cognitive neuroscience, as well as in the physiologic bases of music and language. During the last and current decade, interval timing has been intensively studied in humans and animals using increasingly sophisticated approaches. This new edition of the .Neurobiology of Interval Timing .integrates the current knowledge of animal behavior and human cognition of the passage of time in different behavioral contexts, including the perception and production of time intervals, as well as rhythmic activities. The chapters are written by the leading experts in the fields of psychophysics, functional imaging, systems neurophysiology, and musicology. The new edition features a complete updating of the content with many new chapters. The main updates are the remarkable advances in our understanding of the neural basis of temporal processing in monkeys, rodents, and humans. The notion is that the neural clock depends on the dynamics of neural populations in the motor system, and that this general internal time representation interacts with the sensory and cognitive

The Motor of Time: Coupling Action to Temporally Predictable Events Heightens Perceptionn of the event’s onset or duration, but also boosts sensory processing of its non-temporal features such as pitch or shape. The effects of temporal predictability on motor behavior and sensory processing involve motor and left parietal cortices and are mediated by changes in delta and beta oscillations in motor areas of the brain.

Creating a Home for Timing Researchers: Then, Now, and the Futureit requires a community. Having a community with an interest and/or expertise in timing can allow for cross-fertilization of ideas. This chapter introduced the story of the Timing Research Forum or else TRF.

The Processing of Short Time Intervals: Some Critical Issuesn. In addition to the effect caused by the physical characteristics of the stimuli, the perceived duration also relies on the way of presenting successive stimuli and on whether the intervals are marked by a single source or by different sources with distance (spatial effect) between them.

Neural Sequences and the Encoding of Timee the role of neural sequences in the encoding of time, and how they may emerge in a biologically plausible manner. We conclude that neural sequences may represent a canonical computational regime to perform temporal computations.

Coordinate-Based Meta-Analyses of the Time Perception Networkawn by them, and where future areas of inquiry lie. The result of this survey suggests the existence of a domain-general “timing network” that can be used both as a guide for individual neuroimaging studies and as a template for future meta-analyses.

Rhythms in Speechs information must be parsed and integrated by the receiver for the correct transmission of meaning. This chapter describes the temporal patterns that characterize the speech signal and reviews research that explores the neural mechanisms underlying the generation of these patterns and the role they play in speech comprehension.
