描述.Neural Network Simulation Environments. describes some ofthe best examples of neural simulation environments. .All current neural simulation tools can be classified into fouroverlapping categories of increasing sophistication in softwareengineering. The least sophisticated are undocumented and dedicatedprograms, developed to solve just one specific problem; these toolscannot easily be used by the larger community and have not beenincluded in this volume. The next category is a collection ofcustom-made programs, some perhaps borrowed from other applicationdomains, and organized into libraries, sometimes with a rudimentaryuser interface. More recently, very sophisticated programs started toappear that integrate advanced graphical user interface and other dataanalysis tools. These are frequently dedicated to just one neuralarchitecture/algorithm as, for example, three layers of interconnectedartificial `neurons‘ learning to generalize input vectors using abackpropagation algorithm. Currently, the most sophisticatedsimulation tools are complete, system-level environments, incorporating the most advanced concepts in software engineering thatcan support experimentation and model developm

NBC: A Workstation for Biological Neural Network Simulation, conditions. NBC provides an analysis tool highly useful in the study of network behavior, at both global and unitary levels, and in both the frequency and the temporal domain. NBC is menu driven with a user-friendly XWindow/Motif interface and produces graphic outputs.
