Normal Head Ultrasound in the Preterm and Term Newborn,In newborns, persistent fetal fluid-filled spaces such as the cavum septum pellucidum, cavum Vergae, and cavum veli interpositi, asymmetry in size of the lateral ventricles, and variable morphology of the choroid plexus are physiological.

Seizures,rometabolic disorders. It is important to identify neonatal seizures and their underlying cause as soon as possible to initiate an appropriate therapy and avoid further brain damages. High-quality neonatal head ultrasound may provide helpful information to detect some etiologies of neonatal seizures.

Muscular Hypotonia,in malformations, neurometabolic disorders, and other genetic disorders. Neonatal head ultrasound provides helpful information in detecting brain abnormalities that may cause neonatal muscular hypotonia.

Microcephaly,etabolic diseases, and chromosomal abnormalities) and environmental (disruptive) etiologies (e.g., congenital infections, drugs with teratogenic/toxic effect, and poorly controlled maternal conditions). Head ultrasound is very helpful in detecting the underlying cause of microcephaly as well as following changes/growth of the head size over time.

Macrocephaly,as Chiari 2 malformation, Dandy–Walker malformation, vein of Galen malformation, and stenosis of the Sylvian aqueduct. Ultrasound is very helpful in detecting hydrocephalus and its underlying cause as well as following changes in ventricular size over time.
