描述This book deals with natural hazards of geophysical, meteorological, hydrological, and biological types that are causing increasing social and economic damage. The development of these hazards and their impact on the living and non-living environment are described in the individual chapters. The compilation synthesises a natural and social geography approach, explores mitigation options and focuses attention on the processes that are most prevalent in Europe and Western Asia, in addition to global phenomena..The author argues that, with the right knowledge and preparedness, the wide-ranging impacts of natural hazards intertwined with climate change can be reduced. This work provides a wealth of digitally accessible professional information to help readers identify and manage natural hazards. The book is useful for students, educators, professionals, practitioners, and those interested in decision making..

Extraterrestrial Hazards, rom small disturbances (small earthquakes) to major ones (the extinction of dinosaurs in the Upper Cretaceous in Earth’s history) can significantly impact humanity. The damage from impacts is much less likely to occur than any of the natural hazards analysed earlier, but we outline the options available to mitigate the adverse impacts.

Climate Change and Its Impacts,st part of this chapter analyses the physical background and trends of climate change and presents some of its possible causes, ecological and economical consequences. It then analyses the impact of climate change on inland ice sheets, glaciers and the state of the oceans. Finally, it dissects what can be done to reduce these damaging trends.

General Analysis of Natural Hazards, possible. The chapter also briefly summarises some of the practical issues associated with hazards, e.g. management issues. That is, to what extent the consequences of hazards can be reduced in the preparation, mitigation or reconstruction phase.

Meteorological Hazards,a key driver of these often-extreme processes. One of its most characteristic features is the increase in temperature and the transformation of precipitation patterns. Still, the measurable consequences of heat and cold waves, changing wind and precipitation patterns can also cause serious environmental, health and financial problems.
