描述.This book offers an extensive review of the most recent data on the pathophysiological role of structural and functional alterations in the microcirculation, particularly focusing on hypertension and diabetes. It covers several relevant and innovative aspects, including the possible mechanisms involved in the development of microvascular remodeling and rarefaction, the technical approaches available for the detection of microvascular alterations, including non-invasive evaluations, the prognostic role of changes in small resistance artery structure, the possibility of preventing or regressing such alterations with appropriate treatment, and the potential clinical advantages of such intervention. A number of innovative areas of research are considered, including the role of the immune system, inflammation and oxidative stress in the development of microvascular alterations. Lastly, it examines the availability of recent non-invasive methods for the evaluation of small resistance artery morphology in the retina, which in the near future may provide a useful tool for the stratification of cardiovascular risk and even for clinical decisions regarding drug treatment, thus providing phy

Pathophysiological Mechanisms Implicated in Organ Damage and Cardiovascular Events, slowly beginning to appreciate that in fact they exist as a spectrum of conditions and there is an intricate interplay between these disease states which share a common aetiology and pathobiology at cellular and microvascular level.

Microvascular Alterations in Obesity,ed cardiovascular risk observed in the obese subjects..Recent findings, employing new methodological approaches, evaluated the effects of obesity on microcirculation. These studies have clarified some of the mechanisms involved in the alterations observed both in the structure and function of this important vascular bed.

Cardiovascular Effects of Anti-angiogenic Drugs,t. This contribution reviews the major mechanisms of angiogenesis as well as the cardiovascular effects of anti-angiogenic drugs with a focus on hypertension and the possible mechanisms underlying TKI-induced hypertension in relation to the role of the microcirculation as an important target of blood pressure control.

Immune Mechanisms in Vascular Remodeling in Hypertension, ammatory and immune cells infiltrating the adventitia and perivascular fat produce cytokines that contribute to vascular injury. Molecular studies may identify diagnostic and therapeutic targets in the future that will improve our ability to prevent and treat vascular injury associated with hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
