描述 | Rice production is affected by changing climate conditions andhas the dual role of contributing to global warming through emissionsof the greenhouse gas methane. Climate change has been recognized as amajor threat to the global environment. Because of insufficient fielddata, rice-growing countries face a problem when trying to comply withthe United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change stipulationsto compile a national inventory of emissions and to explore mitigationoptions. .Given the expected doubling in rice production in Asia, the need toevaluate the interaction between climate change and rice production iscritical to forming a sound basis for future directions of technologydevelopments by policy makers, agriculturists, environmentalists, riceproducers, and rice consumers. .The present book comprises two sections. The first part documents acomprehensive overview of the results achieved from an interregionalresearch effort to quantify methane emission from major riceecosystems and to identify efficient mitigation options. This researchreport broadens understanding of the contribution of rice cultivationto methane emissions and clarifies that emissions are relatively low |
