Concept of Molecular Design in Relation to the Metal-Binding Sites of Proteins and Enzymes,ed as an important research area in biochemistry. When metal protein interactions are viewed in the context of the varied phenomena of metals in enzymology, a panorama of the extensive role of metals in biological systems unfolds.

Chelate Metal Complexes of Purines, Pyrimidines and Their Nucleosides: Metal-Ligand and Ligand-LigaStructural, synthetic and spectroscopic studies on chelate metal complexes of purines, pyrimidines and their nucleosides are discussed. All these studies suggest that chelate metal complexes can, . interligand interactions, react selectively with nucleic acid components.

Influence of Heterocyclic Nitrogen Atoms on the Interaction Between Purine Analogues and Metal IonsThe charge-transfer complexes formed between different purine analogues and Cu. have been investigated by means of ESR and NMR studies. It could be shown that the number as well as the position of the heterocyclic nitrogens influence the strength of these complexes.

Co(III)-ATP Complexes as Affinity Labeling Reagents of Myosin and Coupling Factor-1 ATPases,In most ATPases the substrate is found in the form of a complex of ATP, with a metal ion, such as Ca. or Mg.. We have therefore attempted to replace these labile metal ions by Co. which, by virtue of the inertness of its complexes, could remain attached to its ligands.

Crystallographic Studies of Valinomycin and A23187,Ionophores are a class of antibiotics which are capable of transporting ions across synthetic and biological membranes. Great differences in molecular composition are observed since these antibiotics may be linear or cyclic compounds and may be either polyethers or polypeptides. Ion specificity is also found to show a considerable variation.
