The consequences of theft include not only the stolen metal, but also the frequent and expensive damage to property and equipment in the process. Scrappers as a Subculturections. Scrappers often assisted one another when in need. Most of these values, beliefs, and behaviors are absent from thieves, and occasionally appear contradictory to the scrappers’ code. Metal thieves were not simply scrappers who stole, but rather functioned separately and outside of the subculture of scrappers.

Theft Partnerships and Learningd usually contained at least one individual who had experience working in a field related to the metal industry. The methods of learning to steal metal include gaining knowledge from other thieves, through work, and by trial and error. Each of these learning methods is unique but not exclusive, and many thieves learn by all three methods.

Introduction commonly recycled metals are copper, iron, steel, aluminum, and brass, which are often collected by individuals who refer to themselves as scrappers and then sold as scrap to be recycled. However, little is known about scrappers, and as the number of scrappers grows, so do instances of metal theft.
