描述This book addresses the current concepts in tissue acquisition, diagnosis, and classification of mediastinal lesions in small biopsies including cytology. Examples of mediastinal diseases that are either more common, more challenging to diagnose, or have a differential diagnosis that is important and might require different modes of treatment are highlighted. The knowledge of some key morphologic features and immunohistochemical pitfalls will be helpful for the practicing pathologist to tackle this challenge. The general workup of a mediastinal biopsy and the workup of major disease groups in mediastinal pathology which the general pathologist should be familiar with is discussed. Morphologic and, if applicable, immunophenotypic and molecular features that can help to distinguish these disease entities are highlighted. Furthermore, the reader will learn about the pertinent clinical implications of the diseases. M.ediastinal Lesions: Diagnostic Pearls for Interpretation of SmallBiopsies and Cytology. will be a reference guide for pathologists, pathologists-in-training, and allied professionals, including oncologists, pulmonologists, surgeons, and radiologists.

Radiologic Features of Mediastinal Lesions, rigin. Therefore, most radiologists, pathologists, and other health care providers will only encounter many of these abnormalities infrequently. Imaging plays an important role in the identification and evaluation of mediastinal lesions, enables formulation of an appropriate differential diagnosis f

Thymic Epithelial Tumors and Benign Thymic Lesions,e thought to be operable based on imaging studies may not need to be biopsied, if surgery is deemed to be the treatment of choice. However, if nonsurgical therapies (as is the case in lymphomas) or neoadjuvant strategies are options, core needle biopsies may be an invaluable tool to guide therapeuti

Soft Tissue Tumors of the Mediastinum, ntered in the mediastinum are related to the thymus. Most neoplasms diagnosed in the mediastinum are epithelial tumors (thymomas and thymic carcinomas), lymphomas, or germ cell tumors. In contrast, soft tissue tumors of the mediastinum are rare. Because of their rarity, most mesenchymal tumors in th
