Calculus: Differentiation,Given a function .(.), as in Fig. 2.1, one of its characteristics which may be of interest is its “rate of change” or its “wigglyness”. We could get some idea of this by calculating the slope of the curve at any point ., the natural measure of slope being the tan of the angle ., tan .. Thus tan . = 0 means the curve is parallel to the .-axis.
