A Structural Theory of Rhythm Notation Based on Tree Representations and Term Rewritinging systems or tree automata. Then we propose an equational theory, defined as a set of rewrite rules for transforming these representations. This theory is complete in the sense that from a given rhythm notation the rules permit to generate all notations of equivalent durations.

Foundations for Reliable and Flexible Interactive Multimedia Scoresmance installations, and virtual museums. The composer defines the temporal organization of the score by asserting temporal relations (.s) between temporal objects (.s). At execution time, the performer may modify the start/stop times of the .s by triggering interaction points and the system guarant

Genetic Algorithms Based on the Principles of , and Developing Variationy based on the principles of . and developing variation, both elaborated by Arnold Schoenberg. The present study introduces a group of four complementary and sequential modules modeled as genetic algorithms (forming the geneMus complex), employed for the systematical production of variants from a ba

Location Constraints for Repetition-Based Segmentation of Melodieson identification results in an overwhelmingly large number of repetitions, requiring the application of constraints for selecting relevant repetitions. This paper proposes constraints based on the locations of repetitions, extending existing approaches on constraints based on repetition length and

Modeling Musical Structure with Parametric Grammarsrough fixed musical concepts, we use parametric grammars, an extension of context-free grammars with predicates that take parameters. Parameters are here small patterns of music that will be used with different roles in the piece. We investigate their potential use in defining and discovering the st

Perfect Balance: A Novel Principle for the Construction of Musical Scales and Meterscircle such that their ‘centre of gravity’ is precisely at the circle’s centre. . is implied by the well established concept of . (e.g., equal step scales or isochronous meters). However, we identify a less trivial class of perfectly balanced patterns that have no repetitions within the period. Such
