Multiscale Approximation, respect, wavelet methods offer an alternative to classical Fourier- or Gabortransforms which create a phase space consisting of a time/space- frequency parametrization. Hence, wavelet methods are advantageous whenever local, non-stationary structures on different scales have to be analyzed.
