描述.The diversity of procedures that characterize modern refractive surgery makes it, both for the beginner and the experienced surgeon, necessary to have well established guidelines to face refractive complications. This lavishly illustrated guide is written by international opinion leaders with extensive experience in the practice of refractive surgery. It offers the reader practical pearls to the solution and prevention of the different complications of corneal and refractive surgery..This book provides ophthalmic surgeons with appropriate solutions for the most frequent problems they would face in their daily practice. .Surgical complications are described and illustrated from their pathogenesis to various treatment modalities. Complications covered include: Intraoperative complications (e.g. those encountered during femtosecond laser, SMILE and LASIK, corneal refractive surgery, refractive lens exchange, and intraocular refractive procedures); early post-operative complications and late post-operative complications..

Management of the Distorted Flaplar flap by the patient. Distortion, striae, or folds in the corneal flap are one of the most commonly encountered flap complications with LASIK (Figs. 5.1 and 5.2). The presence of this distortion can result in patient dissatisfaction due to quality of vision complaints, or even loss of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA).

Management of the Distorted Flaps associated with the procedure are associated with the initial creation of the flap, although some are due to later manipulation of the corneal lamellar flap by the patient. time. Unraveling the dynamics and the mechanisms giving rise to such variability has been the goal of recent work, largely aided by quantitative/ mathematical tools. Quantitative evaluation of cell-to-cell variability (heterogeneity) poses technical challenges that only recently are being overcome.

Scarringnction. After any epithelial and stromal wound, an immediate process starts to repair the wound and restore normal corneal structure and function. This wound healing response is a complex cascade of events that affect the predictability and stability of laser corneal refractive procedures.
