Uncle Willy: The Jew Who Loved Germanyfter him. He served in the Great War and was awarded the Iron Cross. Surprisingly, he was a German patriot and also became a Zionist after the war ended. He was murdered in the Holocaust with his wife and two little daughters. His massive diaries and his autobiography have been published posthumously. The “big question” is: Why did he not get out?

Oxford: The Very Best Years level supervisions. I had many impressive colleagues, notably, but not only, John Hicks and Ian Little. I made many close friends and had outstanding students, with many of whom I have stayed in contact..I wrote and published three major books and other publications.

International Monetary Fundosal. My analysis was eventually published in the Fund’s journal, the .. I learnt a lot about the Fund and was impressed by the quality of the staff. The debt crisis actually ended with the “Brady Plan”, fostered by the USA.

Part II addresses Corden‘s work on the Australian Protection Policy

There was certainly some hostility to refugees, expressed in publications of various kinds, but we never actually met hostile people. All this is discussed in this chapter.

ANU: Dutch Disease and Other Issuespter also contains essays about four influential ANU economics professors—Sir John Crawford, Trevor Swan, Heinz Arndt, and Fred Gruen. Sadly, in this period, Harry Johnson died at age 53. In 1986, I was on leave from the ANU to hold the Chair of Australian Studies at Harvard University.

Johns Hopkins: Thirteen Years in Washington DCr in a team led by Ian Little of an ambitious study of the macroeconomic policies and experiences of 18 developing countries. Perhaps it was too ambitious? My particular responsibility was for the study of exchange rate policies and experiences. This gave me knowledge or material for new books, articles and numerous lectures.
