The primary data for the claimof locality at LF is drawn from Hindi but English data is used indiscussing the semantics of questions and relative clauses. The booktakes a cross-linguistic perspective showing how the Hindi and Englishfacts can be brought to bear on the theory of universal grammar..There are several phenomena generally thought to involve long-distancedependencies at LF, such as scope marking, long-distance list answersand correlatives. In this book they are handled by explicating noveltypes of local relationships that interrogative and relative clausescan enter. Amore articulated semantics is shown leading to a simplersyntax. .Among other issues addressed is the switch from uniqueness/maximalityeffects in single WH constructions to list readings in multiple WHconstructions. These effects are captured by adapting the treatment ofWH expressions as quantifying over functions to the cases of multipleWH questions and correlatives. List readings due to functionaldependencies are systematically distinguished fr | 出版日期 | Book 1996 | 关键词 | English; Hindi; Index; Syntax; grammar; relative clauses; semantic; semantics; subject | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1007/978-94-011-4808-5 | isbn_softcover | 978-0-7923-5478-9 | isbn_ebook | 978-94-011-4808-5Series ISSN 0924-4662 Series E-ISSN 2215-034X | issn_series | 0924-4662 | copyright | Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 1996 |
