描述Percutaneous tumor ablation techniques are now well established in the curative or pall- tive treatment of patients with primary or secondary malignant tumors of the liver. Radioembolization is a newly developed technique which takes advantage of the synergy of endovascular embolization and ofbrachytherapy in the treatment of cancer. It offers new perspectives for achieving local control of tumor growth with a low rate of complications. This book is the result of an intensive and successful collaboration between two le- ing European centers in interventional radiological oncology which have rapidly acquired extensive experience with this new technique over the past few years. I am very much indebted to the editors, Professor Bilbao and Professor M. Reiser, for their superb efforts in putting together the concept and outline of this volume, as wells as for the very short preparation time needed for its final publication. I thank them and the collaborators from their team, who actively participated in the compilation of the various chapters, for their excellent work. This outstanding volume covers all basic and clinical aspects of radioembolization of the liver very comprehensively.

Nuclear Medicine Procedures for Treatment Evaluation,By providing functional information, nuclear medicine procedures play a key role in oncology and convey valuable data for all steps of microsphere treatment. Functional imaging is highly synergistic to morphologic imaging data, recently leading to the success of combined morphologic and functional imaging with PET/CT and SPECT/CT.

Radioembolization : Identifying and Managing Anatomic Variants, scribed in the literature, the characterization and understanding of regional hepatic perfusion in the context of radioembolization continues to be studied in great depth. The aim of this chapter is to provide a thorough discussion and detailed presentation of the management of arterial variants within the context of radioembolization.

Radiological Detection and Assessment of Tumor Response,g on the primary tumor. Even if this fact represents the final status of a malignancy, about half of all patients dying from a malignant disease will have apparent hepatic métastases. The risk of developing hepatic metastases varies widely among different types of primary malignancy.

90Y Microspheres: Concepts and Principles, ent and oft-stated question by many in oncology. With the development of internal brachytherapy, the delivery of tumoricidal doses of radiation to tumors of all origins and in all segments of the liver became a reality. Recent advances in medical oncology (anti-angiogenic agents, new systemic chemot
