Continuous Mass Distributions. Gravitational Potential and Field, btained results to different geometries and mass density distributions. Special emphasis will made on potentials with spherical symmetry. Other additional exercises regarding satellites, stationary orbits and escape velocities are also proposed.

Rigid Body Dynamics,F (also previously discussed in detail in Chap. .). The reader is thus highly encouraged to read at least Appendix F before starting the lecture of this chapter. New concepts such as the inertia tensor, will be studied in detail for both the discrete and the continuum case. All relevant equations wi

Special Theory of Relativity, examples for a better conceptual understanding of the underlying phenomena. We reformulate the Newtonian equations of motion in order to obtain their Relativistic Lorentz-invariant formulation. We analyse and comment upon the Newtonian limit . in all cases. In parallel we give a tensor formulation

Relativistic Collisions and Decays,of collisions in Special Relativity, far from being a straightforward generalization of non-relativistic processes, introduces a totally new phenomenon, conversion of matter into energy and vice-versa. In the realm of subatomic particles, we can collide two particles and obtain two (or more) other d

Non Relativistic Collisions, otion of particle scattering by a hard (impenetrable sphere) and by a repulsive potential. As already usual in this book, the most generic aspects will be presented, and the reader will be invited to deduce additional theoretical aspects and apply them to some practical examples.

Non-relativistic Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics,we reveal the relation between symmetries and conserved quantities. The formalism will be built from scratch and the stationary action principle (widely known as the minimum action principle) will be also introduced and analysed for non-relativistic systems. Some illustrative solved exercises will be given at the end of the chapter.
