CO2 Laser LaparoscopyLasers have been used via laparoscopy for 10 years now. The first prototype was developed by the Polyclinique team Clermont-Ferrand, France, in 1979 [4]. Since then techniques have evolved considerably, and the indications have widened to the extent that many laparoscopic surgeons now have a decided preference for the laser.

AdhesiolysisThe application of laser techniques has enlarged the spectrum of adhesions amenable to laparoscopic therapy. Thus besides salpingo- and ovariolysis, as described in previous chapters, dissection of adhesions between bowels and uterus or the tubo-ovarian functional unit can be performed laparoscopically with the carbon dioxide laser (Fig. 1).
