描述.Language, Compilers and Run-time Systems for ScalableComputers. contains 20 articles based on presentations given at thethird workshop of the same title, and 13 extended abstracts from theposter session. .Starting with new developments in classical problems of parallelcompiler design, such as dependence analysis and an exploration ofloop parallelism, the book goes on to address the issues of compilerstrategy for specific architectures and programming environments.Several chapters investigate support for multi-threading, objectorientation, irregular computation, locality enhancement, andcommunication optimization. Issues of the interface between languageand operating system support are also discussed. Finally, the loadbalance issues are discussed in different contexts, including sparsematrix computation and iteratively balanced adaptive solvers forpartial differential equations. Some additional topics are alsodiscussed in the extended abstracts. .Each chapter provides a bibliography of relevant papers and the bookcan thus be used as a reference to the most up-to-date research inparallel software engineering.

Machine-Independent Parallel Programming Using the Divide-and-Conquer Paradigm, point of view, this is not a major liability since our strategy will be useful in building domain-specific . and ., which are truly machine-independent. We give preliminary results from a case study in which our method is used to adapt the parallel implementations of the conjugate gradient algorithm on a multiprocessor and a workstation network.

Point-To-Point Communication Using Migrating Ports,k-to-task communication via ports can be achieved efficiently even using standard system software, but that improvements in the integration of threading and communication mechanisms would improve performance significantly.
