Žižek, Fantasy, and Truthth, discovered by Freud and shared by Joyce, Lacan, and Žižek, means that what one explores always remains in doubt, and that what one discovers is not what one expected. So the object can never match desire, and truth can never satisfy what summons it. The active importance of this level of Joyce’s narrative has not been recognized.
