Extracellular Potassium and Calcium Activities in the Mammalian Spinal Cord, and the Effect of Changignificance of transient variations of [K.]. and [Ca.]. for the functioning of neuronal tissue. To this end we will compare the changes of ion activity observed in mammalian central gray matter in situ, with the effects of deliberately imposed changes of ion levels in bathing media upon mammalian neural tissues maintained in vitro.

Sensitivity of K+-Selective Microelectrodes to pH and Some Biologically Active Substancesthers. Electrode potentials were measured in mixtures of constant ionic strength and appropriate selectivity constants were calculated — K. = 0.002, K. = 0.025, K. = 0.02, which are valid for ionic strength 0.1 mol.1. (Walker, 1971).

pH Related Potassium Movements in Rabbit Atriumnitiating factor in potassium loss. To investigate this, we chose an isolated rabbit atrial preparation which could be superfused with solutions of various composition while recording both intracellular and extracellular potassium activity.

Double-Barrel Ion Selective [K+, Ca2+, Cl−] Coaxial Microelectrodes (ISCM) for Measurements of SmallDouble-barrel liquid ion-exchanger microelectrodes (ISM) are used at present to measure concentration changes in biological tissues (Lux et al., 1972; Vyklický et al., 1972; VyskoČil et al., 1972; Hník et al., 1972; Lux and Neher, 1973; Oehme et al., 1976). The ISM (K., Ca., Cl.) have a longitudinal resistance (R.) from 200 MΩ to 2 GΩ.
