描述.Incidence of invasive fungal sinusitis has been increasing over the years. The understanding of its pathophysiology has improved with newer serological tests and diagnostic methods helping in earlier diagnosis and reducing patient morbidity. It was believed earlier that invasive fungal sinusitis is seen only in immune compromised patients but clinical reports suggest otherwise. More anti-fungal drugs are being added to improve incidence of patient survival. This book aims to compile all practical information about invasive fungal sinusitis into a single volume. Therefore, busy clinicians would not have to perform exhaustive literature studies to diagnose invasive fungal sinusitis. The book aims to provide an overview of diseases which could be mistaken for invasive fungal sinusitis and discuss how the management is different. .Book sections consist of clinical, microbiological, serological, pathological, radiological and pharmacological features of the disease and its management. Each section is important in today’s context as it dynamically alters the management of the patient. Conclusion, (such as PCR techniques and biomarkers) as well as therapeutic modalities (like immunopharmacology and vaccines) can improve outcomes. With the development of genome sequencing and molecular tools for studying fungi, this may all be soon possible (Table 1).

Microbiology in Invasive Fungal Sinusitis,itous and are continuously being inhaled, leading to colonization of the sinuses. This colonization may lead to chronic sinusitis and occasionally invasive fungal infection especially in an immunocompromised host.

Introduction,picion; adequate and appropriate sinus biopsies; rapid microbiological, pathological, and radiological diagnosis; followed by prompt aggressive and concomitant surgical debridement, antifungal treatment, and management of the underlying or predisposing metabolic or other systemic disorders.

Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Risk Factors,n the incidence of all types of fungal sinusitis [2, 4]. At M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Texas, the number of reported cases increased from 8 per 100,000 admissions during 1989–1993 to 17 per 100,000 admissions during 1994–1998 [4].

Radiology in Invasive Fungal Sinusitis,would enable the physician to decide appropriate management techniques. This chapter discusses the radiological characteristics of both invasive and noninvasive sinusitis to enable the clinician to differentiate between the types.
