描述This book provides a self-contained undergraduate course on quantum computing based on classroom-tested lecture notes. It reviews the fundamentals of quantum mechanics from the double-slit experiment to entanglement, before progressing to the basics of qubits, quantum gates, quantum circuits, quantum key distribution, and some of the famous quantum algorithms. As well as covering quantum gates in depth, it also describes promising platforms for their physical implementation, along with error correction, and topological quantum computing. With quantum computing expanding rapidly in the private sector, understanding quantum computing has never been so important for graduates entering the workplace or PhD programs. Assuming minimal background knowledge, this book is highly accessible, with rigorous step-by-step explanations of the principles behind quantum computation, further reading, and end-of-chapter exercises, ensuring that undergraduate students in physics and engineering emerge well prepared for the future.

Superposition,One of the defining characteristics of quantum mechanics is the possibility of a superposition of states.

Quantization,Quantum computers represent inf`ormation (digital bits, 0 and 1) using two different states of a quantum system. One possibility is to represent 0 and 1 using two different quantized energy levels; e.g., 0 as the ground state and 1 as an excited state. This chapter examines the quantization of measurables, especially energy, in quantum mechanics

Qubits,Information in computing (classical or quantum) is represented as binary 0 and 1. Quantum computing uses quantum states to represent 0 and 1, allowing a superposition of 0 and 1 simultaneously. This superposition of 0 and 1 is called a qubit which is the fundamental unit of quantum computing.

Entanglement,There exist multiple qubit states that cannot be expressed as a product of individual qubit states. These states are called entangled states, which is another powerful resource used in quantum computing.

Quantum Key Distribution,Quantum key distribution (QKD) provides a means of secure communication between two parties. QKD exploits the principle that you cannot eavesdrop on a quantum communication channel without producing a detectable disturbance.

Teleportation,Teleportation uses entanglement to move a quantum state from one quantum system to another, without having to send the physical system.
