We also hypothesize that dynamic region configurations can be used, in distributed systems, to accommodate run-time variations in computer and network performance. These configuration changes can be based on real-time measurements of system elements.

Network-conscious compressed images over wireless networks,ocessed independently of all other ADUs. Therefore each ADU can be delivered to the receiving application out-of-order, thereby enabling faster progressive display of images. We explain why this approach is useful in general and specifically for wireless/heterogeneous environments.
