Analytical Approach, film scenes were transcribed using CA transcription conventions and analysed using the ELAN software, for the non-verbal resources. All the transcription was done by the author and no scripts were used or consulted. It is the actual film scenes that constitute the data, which consist of five film scenes from five different films.

Verbal Features of Interaction, participants’ turns and the flow of the interaction as a whole. These are found to be related to the social actions performed by the interlocutors. Lastly, the gaps are discussed with respect to their interactional functions. They appears both as intra-turn (within the same turn) and as inter-turn (between different turns).

Despite the multitude of functions and roles of gaze in interaction, this chapter only focuses on three: its relationship with the participant roles of speaker and recipient, its role in the participation framework of engagement and/or disengagement and its function in action formation.
