,The 17 August 1999 Gölcük (Kocaelı)- Arıfıye (Adapazari) and 12 November 1999 Düzce Earthquakes, NWe east of Gölcük-Arifiye line and created a 38 km long surface rupture. The maximum rigth-lateral displacement of 4.5 m occurred in the middle of the surface rupture. To the south of Düzce, the surface ruptures of two earthquakes overlapped by about 10 km length. Düzce earthquake must have been triggered by Gölcük-Arifiye earthquake.
