Cosmic Rays, below 10. eV, like the cosmic microwave background radiation [1], to the highest energies of charged cosmic ray particles with up to a few 10. eV [2] (see Fig. 2.1). The extraterrestrial origin of cosmic rays was discovered by Victor Hess in 1912, when he measured an increase of ionizing radiation with height during balloon ascents [3].
