描述.Infant Mortality and Working-Class Child Care, 1850-1899 unlocks the hidden history of working-class child care during the second half of the nineteenth century, seeking to challenge those historians who have cast working-class women as feckless and maternally ignorant. By plotting the lives of northern women whilst they grappled with industrial waged work in the factory, in agriculture, in nail making, and in brick and salt works, this book reveals a different picture of northern childcare, one which points to innovative and enterprising child care models. Attention is also given to day-carers as they acted in loco parentis and the workhouse nurse who worked in conjunction with medical paediatrics to provide nineteenth-century welfare to pauper infants. Through the use of a new and wide range of source material, which includes medical and poor law history, Melanie Reynolds allows a fresh and new perspective of working-class child care to arise..

Conclusion,e have seen, historians today reiterate the belief that science and medicine might have improved the northern IMR during the latter half of the nineteenth century were it not for the failings of northern working-class mothers.

Industrial Mothers,d care models these hard-working and hard-pressed women used whilst labouring in the industrial sectors. This chapter will move beyond this context and explore the extent to which the model identified by the Rector and Dickens in the quotation above reflected the reality of nineteenth-century child care for northern working-class women.

Melanie Reynoldseenth-century England. The woman-loving woman was an eidolon, a phantom, and an ideal with an imaginary, illusory presence. She was a figure rarely defined but many writers described her desire and behaviors or used those desires and behaviors to complicate their plots. Various types of documents—li

Arguing that power and the interrelation between dominance and submission excite desire as much as mutuality, Bruster focuses on aggressive episodes of female homoerotic subversion. That is, he examines instances of “triangulated eroticism” in which a female character, ofte

All isotropic algebras with non-reduced relative root systems are treated, along with classical anisotropic algebras. The latter are treated by what seems to be a novel device, namely by studying certain m
